Vevo

I feel like the music industry has always been pretty conservative about putting content online. Which is why I was surprised to hear that Vevo, one of the most recognized Youtube channels for music videos, is actually a collaboration between several record companies such as Sony and UMG.

What was even more surprising was that Vevo.com is actually a fully-fledged web application for all content related to music videos.

What I liked the most about Vevo is that it isn’t just a rehash of Youtube; it’s a genuine effort to provide a better experience. The right-hand sidebar contains content relevant to the currently playing music video like lyrics, artist bio, and even reactions on Facebook and Twitter.

Bri Manning, who is the technical lead, wrote about a lot of the features and technical implementations here.

Overall, I’m really impressed with how clean and functional the site is. My only complaints is the lack of quality options for the music videos and lack of keyboard shortcuts.
